Homemade Sandwich buns
Ingredients
4 Tablespoon white sugar
2 Tablespoons of active dry yeast
2 cups warm water
1/3 cup oil (I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Avocado Oil)
6 cups of all purpose flour or whole wheat or a combination of both
2 Teaspoons of salt
Instruction:
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of the sugar, the yeast, and 1 cup of the warm water. Let sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
Add the remaining sugar, water, oil, flour and salt. Knead with a stand mixer and dough hook or by hand until the dough is smooth and soft.
Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and place somewhere warm to rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. I warm my oven slightly to about 105°F, turn it off, then place the covered bowl inside with the oven light on.
Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
Divide into 12 equal pieces and shape into round sandwich buns or longer sub-style buns. If making larger buns, you may get fewer than 12.
Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Once the buns have finished their second rise, bake for about 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
